New look, new record on the horizon.

June 26th, 2009

Hi there!

While the website sat broken and static, we have been furiously working to finish up our new record, Feral Fire. While we don’t have a definitive release date set, it is safe to say it will be out this Fall on Lucero’s Liberty and Lament label. The artwork is spectacular and it was done by our friend Drew Binkley.

The vinyl edition of Better Angels is experiencing its 3rd master cutting and will hopefully be the last. We want it in our hands as badly as you do, I assure you.

The new look for the website represents the latest version of the artwork for The Better Angels of Our Nature. This latest run of handmade CD’s will be avalable through this website very soon. This edition was also designed by Drew Binkley and we look forward to working with him in the new year.

We will be playing here and there through the end of the year so keep an eye out for dates that will be confirmed in the coming weeks. Thanks for checking in! Come see us!

We want to thank all our friends who donated to the Glossary transmission fund, especially the good folks from Postcard From Hell. We feel so lucky and humbled to know so many awesome, kind people…and we promise to rock as hard as we possibly can to earn it. Thanks to y’all, the Beauville is gettin’ all fixed up this week….–Kelly

Memphis show cancellation

March 14th, 2009

Unfortunately we had to do something that is extremely rare for Glossary last night – cancel a show.

We got just west of Nashville when our transmission started failing. We lost everything above second gear and limped to a Wendy’s to eat and decide what to do. After deliberation, we realized there was no way we could make the show last night and started thinking about what we needed to do to retain the rest of the shows we have booked, including 5 performances at SXSW. We are very sorry to anyone that came to see us last night especially those who always come to our Memphis shows.

So we bit a huge bullet and rented a van this morning for the week. It’s financially slightly irresponsible, but we don’t like to cancel shows. So with the cost of a new record that doesn’t come out til September, a rental van for the week, and a transmission to replace, we are under a little hardship.

However, we are about to be on our way to Arkansas and Austin and we aren’t going to think about that stuff too much and look forward to spending the next week with all y’all, making rock, holding up beers and saying things like “Wooooo! Pordy!”

We made a music record!

February 24th, 2009

So, then. Friday, January 30th, we finished recording our new full-length album, Feral Fire. And at a reasonable hour, even! In time to make a bonfire and stay up all night celebrating at the Echo Lab. We really had a great recording experience, thanks to Matt Pence and Hoagie the dog. We’ve been back home a few weeks and we’re itching for our next goings-on, which will be SXSW next month in Austin. On the way there we’ve got shows in Memphis and Little Rock, so come out if you can! And of course, we look forward to seeing all our far-flung friends at South By. As far as the record goes, we gotta get that thing mixed and mastered, and we’re shooting for a fall release. We’ll keep you updated, for sure. Also, keep a lookout for new artwork coming soon for Better Angels. ‘Til then, we’ll see you at the rock show.

Recording Week 1: Done and done!

January 26th, 2009

Hey, there. We’re at the Echo Lab in Argyle, Texas, recording our new album, “Feral Fire.” Friday was the end of recording week 1, and so far it’s been coming along like gangbusters, y’all.  Most of the basic tracks are done and we start vocals this afternoon. It sounds awesome, for real. Nods of approval all around.  Of course, I haven’t added any tambourine or shaker yet, which is what truly locks in our “sound”, so I’ll keep you updated.

And in case you were wondering how Glossary spends a post-recording weekend relaxing and regrouping, let me just share some keywords: bonfires, whiskey, sleeping in, grapefruits, fried chicken, and most importantly….Knight Rider marathon.

But now it’s Monday, and Matt Pence is at the board fiddling with thingamajigs (yes, that is a technical studio term), and Hoagie the dog is relaxing with us in the living room while we await the start of today’s sweet session. We’re pleased with our progress…or, we’ve made a huge tiny mistake. I’ll let you know which we’ve decided at the end of recording week 2.

Happy Holidays, y’all!

December 25th, 2008

Hey there. ‘Tis the season for good tidings and all that, and us folks in Glossary want to give a holiday shout out to all our friends out there. To all of you who have been spreading the good word about our last album, The Better Angels of Our Nature, we thank you so much. Next month we’ll be in the studio recording the new one, Feral Fire, so keep a lookout for it…hopefully sooner than later. Also, the lords of vinyl willing, Better Angels will soon be available on record record. We’ll keep you updated.

Did we ever tell you about that time we drove through the desert with no air conditioning? I wouldn’t say that was a goal of ours in 2008, but we did it and it’s in the scrapbook, and the moral is that such nature-related challenges shall not keep us from playing in a town near you. As soon as we get this new album in the can, we’re on the road, okay? So come to a show, already. We want to see you.

Thanks again to our friends and fans who have made the past year so great for us. All the positive feedback and encouragement we’ve gotten from y’all really keeps us going. Have a great holiday and new year, and keep in touch.

–Kelly K.
